I make costumes.
I’m Kama! I have been crafting cosplays since 2013, professionally since 2017. I am essentially a one woman show, well-versed in all aspects of cosplay, from costume design, through crafty fabrications, into photography of the final costume!
My skillset includes design, planning, sewing, foamsmithing, worblasmithing, anythingsmithing, wig styling, makeup, photography, set building, photo editing, video editing, and costume masquerade judging. My background is in electrical engineering, and I view cosplay through a very technical and fair lens when judging costume contests. Cosplay is one part art and one part engineering to me!
FAQs
Why Did you start cosplaying?
In 2013, Andrew Hussie, creator of Homestuck, was at Phoenix Comicon. I was a huge Homestuck fan, and decided to create my first cosplay- Vriska Serket. I had a lot of fun, met some new friends, and never stopped making costumes.
What is your advice for a brand new cosplayer?
Don’t overextend. Don’t pick a project as a newbie that you do not honestly think you can create. I’ve seen way too many new cosplayers pick a masters-level project and quit not even halfway through because they get discouraged, or they manage to finish and then never do another cosplay because they are not satisfied with how their first one turned out. There’s plenty of time to grow, pick something you can confidently create. If you have prior crafting/art experience, you may be able to take on more difficult projects initially! However, this all depends on your skillset.
What’s your fave cosplay you have made?
This is an impossible question to answer, because I have different favorites and it kind of changes depending on the day? I think overall Tarecgosa is my general favorite, because I love the color scheme and Warcraft.
How much time do you spend per cosplay?
Depends on the cosplay. Some are obviously more straightforward and take less time, and some are more involved. Some require more planning, but can be executed fairly quickly, and some might drag on a bit longer than expected. TLDR: ~3 days - 1 month.
What media do you enjoy?
I am one of those people who enjoys a lot of everything. I’ve been gaming since I was 4 years old and watching anime since shortly after that. I’m a lifelong fan of Pokemon, Sailor Moon, DBZ, Digimon, most of the classics. I’ve played WoW on and off since TBC and have been a cutting edge raider. More modern things I enjoy include mostly seinen genre anime like Attack on Titan, Kill La Kill, etc, or as my close friend describes my tastes, “Murder anime.” I enjoy a lot of American media too, such as It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, South Park, etc. I am not a huge fan of mainstream cinema, and probably haven’t seen a lot of movies people consider “classics.” If it’s not dark/psychological or a REALLY stupid comedy I don’t really have much interest.
What are your fave techniques to use?
I am a person who loves variety in my crafting. Lately I’ve been really enjoying the process of handsewing and handpainting my cosplays. Adds a lot of detail and a nice vibe in my opinion. Sometimes I love bedazzling. I really enjoy making props out of foam, too, I think wig styling is my least favorite thing to do, and also priming/sanding.
Do you have a bF?
Ew, lmao. If this is your first question when encountering a female artist on the internet, I sincerely implore you to look into getting your nuts removed, because you are down bad to the point of being delusional. Maybe even, a lobotomy. Both, probably.
I am married, even if I wasn’t, I wouldn’t want to date you.
Do you do cosplay/wig commissions?
Short answer: no. Long answer: I do, but I essentially have to be bribed with *considerably* more money than you could pay someone else to make something equivalent. :) I don’t enjoy crafting for others, so it has to feel worth my time. If you really want a piece I have made, I do sell my used cosplays/wigs on Depop once I am finished with them.
What hobbies do you have?
Traditional art, fashion design, arthropod keeping (I have over 100 pet spiders and other arthropods), fish keeping, video games, writing, EDM festivals/raves, music production. I do a lot of things, and never have any time. >.>
You seem cool, how do we chat?
I don’t want to chat with random dudes on the internet, and I’m not feeding into your parasocial delusions. I do not care enough about grifting your money to pretend to be your friend or online gf. I don’t know you, and don’t care to. You don’t know me, and only want to “chat” with me because I’m a decently attractive woman on the internet. I am not your friend, I am a content creator on the internet, this is my job. (If you are another cosplay girl, disregard the above message I probably want to talk to you. lol.)
What happened to the bikini content?
I found it boring, unchallenging, and draining. I didn’t care for the (porn-addled, parasocial) crowd it drew in. I wrote a whole post about it on X/twitter, if you are curious beyond that. I still offer my old sets on Shoptly, but I will not be making new bikini/lingerie content. If you are looking for nudes or overtly risqué lewds, I never created that content and obviously never will. I only created very basic lingerie/bikini content. My Onlyfans and Patreon are exclusively cosplay content and my incoming messages are screened for pervs by my partner. :)
